Cooking in a Vintage Camper or Tiny Kitchen

It took us a while to figure out which kitchen appliances were best for our indoor vintage camper cooking.  Cecilia’s kitchen consists of a counter top and a refrigerator.  Everything else was removed in the early stages of our camper remodel and I’ve been able to cook up some great meals with the smaller alternatives in this post.

We love cooking outdoors on camping trips, but we also need something to fall back on if it is raining or too warm to stand over a fire.  After 6 years of camping in our vintage camper, this is the system that seems to work best for us.

1. Proctor Silex 32oz Hot pot

This hot pot has been along for the ride for 3 years of camping trips and it is probably the most used item in our camper kitchen.  I use it to heat water for coffee, oatmeal, and washing dishes.  It is also handy for heating up canned soup.  If we are at the campground, the hot pot is on the counter.

2. IMUSA electric single burner

I use this burner in conjunction with a small skillet and a small pot.  It heats up quickly and takes up very little room in storage.  It has been a win for our camper kitchen.  I don’t need this as often, but I do use it for breakfast when we don’t want to cook outside.

3. Tanors Ceramic Coffee Dripper

Coffee has been the hardest part to figure out in our camper kitchen.  We have tried so many different systems over the last 6 years and couldn’t find something that provided the coffee flavor we want.  We were recently introduced to coffee drippers and picked this one up.  After watching a couple of youtube videos, we were able to create a cup of coffee with great flavor.  The best part is that the coffee dripper takes up very little room.

4. 2 Quart Manual Slow Cooker

This crock pot is by far my husband’s favorite way to cook in the camper.  We purchased it right after we purchased the camper and we use it every camping season.  It is small enough to store in our limited space, but large enough to feed both of us on an outing.  Plus, coming into the camper to the smell of french onion soup or chili is kind of amazing.
